To speak of Capoeira in New Zealand one can not do so without giving due credit to Mestre Brabo(Grant Cole) the first Kiwi to reach Mestre(Master) status in NZ for Capoeira.
It was Mestre Brabo who introduced Capoeira to New Zealand in 1992 and was honoured with the title of Mestre in 2007.
There are 2 styles of Capoeira in NZ.
Angola, a slower, more traditional style and ..
Regional(pronounced hay- zhin- al), a faster,more acrobatic,modern style.
There are several Capoeira clubs in NZ and all have their own style and ‘way of Capoeira’.
They are all good and your choice should be based on what is right for you.
